As many have heard, trump’s grand election plan is to conflate Democrats with communists, which is almost as comical as it is ridiculous.

The United States has never elected anyone to state or national office who openly belonged to the Communist Party, and the Democrats advocate for a market-based economy with guardrails and a social safety net, which is far more conservative than the social democracies of Scandinavia, which are far more capitalistic than communism, where the state controls everything.

What a coincidence that trump wants America to be a state where he controls everything. However, his primary motivation seems to be about ensuring that he gets to personally profit off of everything the country does and to have the government be an extension of his every whim, regardless of any pesky rules, laws, or Constitution.

As he tries again to pull off the same magic tricks that somehow “elected” an unfit narcissist in 2024, a little voice inside me said, “You know every time he accuses Dems of being “communists,” he is almost always projecting.”

After further review, it did appear that virtually every time trump or a henchman uses the insult “communist,” the Counter-Narcissist translation was “communism = malignant narcissism.” Therefore, it made sense to do a CNI review of how trump’s use of “communist” is nothing more than a demented narcissist’s attack of psychological projection.

A narcissist’s mind

When a malignant person labels a Democrat a “communist,” those who understand that the definition is 100% wrong should learn to recognize that the narcissist is not talking about the subject. They are subconsciously projecting their own antisocial behaviors, thoughts, and actions onto their enemies, victims, or convenient “others.”

For the unaware, projection is a toxic predator’s primary defense mechanism. It turns their unconscious discomfort of grifting, abusing, and villainy into accusations they can use against those who stand in the way of what they believe they deserve.

The truth is, these narcissists all seem to exhibit authoritarian behaviors by nature because they think that everyone should follow their commands and that they should be able to do whatever they want, whenever they want, without any laws or rules to stop them. What is more authoritarian than that?

Additionally, most narcissists need to be the hero of every story, so their disordered minds put masks over the toxic impulses they can’t accept or that disprove what they need to believe.

In the current example, we see malignant narcissists putting a mask over the word “communist.” Superficially, the attack sounds political, but it psychologically translates into “toxic predator behaviors I can’t admit are mine, because if they are mine, I can’t claim to be a hero I tell myself I am.”

Indeed, psychologically speaking, trump and maga calling Democrats “communists” has nothing to do with truth or reality. As we learned in The Hidden Psychology of maga, the truth and reality are not what trump or maga are all about. Only blindly supporting trump, no matter what he says or does, is the true meaning of maga.

What a coincidence that all malignant narcissists are all about power, dominance, and control at any cost, with any ideology that gets them there. Projection is just a tactic used in every belief system, religion, or ideology they corrupt to serve themselves.

Yes, “communism” implies many things, but among clinical-level narcissists, words rarely mean what you think they mean because their most consistent pattern in all things is projection, which means the opposite of what they say is usually true.

Ergo, malignant types want control, so they say it’s others who want control. They demand absolute loyalty while calling everyone who challenges them cultish. They try to cheat, while saying others are the real cheaters. They try to dominate, while saying others are the real tyrants. Narcissist projection is a very consistent pattern, as the above exemplifies, and believe it or not, jd vance is the worst projector ever.

The question to ask is “Who keeps doing whatever they want without consulting with the experts and keeps making everything worse?” because as it turns out, stupid unplanned wars on a “feeling” can lose you military control over the Middle East and the flow of oil and threaten the global economy within a week.

Stress tests

The real test is to see if, in fact, almost every accusation is a confession, as it appears “communism” has now become for trump and maga. Therefore, let’s look at some of the worst parts of communism to see if CNI’s theory holds.

Political repression - If trump’s targeting political opponents, suppressing dissent, undermining the rule of law, weaponizing government against critics, and trying to promote an atmosphere of fear isn’t political repression, I don’t know what is.

Lack of individual freedoms - trump’s administration has been doing its best to suppress dissent by undermining Americans’ legal and civil rights.

By specifically targeting immigrants, Muslims, people of color, women, academics, journalists, and all those who support these groups, they have created a climate of fear and racist and misogynist policies that almost every male malignant narcissist craves. This environment gives toxic predators the justification for abusing other human beings, and if they get away with it, they can go down their list, just like the nazis did.

Economic inefficiency due to government control - A president who defunds programs that help people while monetizing the office to serve themselves was never conceived of as a form of economic inefficiency, but now we see it is.

Historically led to mass killings - The money cut from USAID by trump and musk is currently estimated to have killed 757,314 humans so far. Sickeningly, it is mostly children who have died as a direct result of funding cuts made by trump and musk to global health programs. They call it efficiency. For humanity and America’s standing in the world, the results of their shameless cruelty are toxic, and it’s just the beginning.

Human rights violations - trump is rapidly eroding human rights with mass deportations, ending asylum access, suppressing protests, and attacking marginalized communities and any convenient scapegoats. These are the actions taken by authoritarians to undermine democratic norms and civil liberties in the process of consolidating power.

While not a perfect alignment with communism, trump’s behaviors and alliances are far closer and friendlier to authoritarians than Democrats or even Republicans have ever been, so the theory that “communism” is really just a malignant narcissist’s projection of the same authoritarian model holds.

It’s a pattern

Just like with the epstein files, trump and malignant maga media said for years it was the Democrats who were protecting a global cabal of pedophiles and that they would release everything if elected. Of course, once in office, trump and his supporters have done the exact opposite.

Just like trump said he would lower prices on day one or wouldn’t start stupid wars, his words are consistently confessions that he will do the opposite of what is promised.

One would think that after all of his lies and constant failures, maga would finally figure out that trump is a malignant narcissist who destroys everything, just as he declares that the Democrats are “communists” who will destroy everything. Somehow they keep missing these very obvious patterns.

Dems are communists 🙄

In case you missed it, trump calling Dems communists is nothing new. It has been one of his favorite trolling tactics since at least the 2024 election in both AI and extreme and nonsensical over-the-top rhetoric.

Yes, trump the one-trick pony, did the exact same dishonest communist fear-mongering to Kamala Harris in 2024 as he is trying to do to the entire Democratic Party in 2026.

Once again, it is tragic (Dunning-Kruger) comedy when a narcissist accuses someone of achieving the impossible feat of being on opposite ends of the political spectrum at the same time. It now seems clear that the earlier conflation then was the same authoritarian projection we see now.

How unsurprising that the most authoritarian president America has ever had is accusing the other side of being the worst kind of authoritarians.

The communist horror! 😱

Fundamentally, toxic predators do not see their opponents or anyone clearly because they have a built-in bias. All they are seeing are their own cravings and compulsions in others because they need to put their discomfort somewhere. That is an essence of psychological projection and one reason why CNI rates it as the number one mind trick performed by malignant narcissists, sociopaths, and psychopaths.

To the surprise of most, this defense mechanism usually operates automatically and unconsciously, which means there is zero thought or mad genius behind it because they aren’t even trying. Projection is a psychological antibody that narcissist brains turn up to 8, 9, or 10 to protect their fragile psyches and unstable minds.

The tragic genius of projection is how easy it is for people who lack guilt, empathy, or remorse to convincingly accuse others of what they did or want to do. Then ignorant, vulnerable, and naive people believe them, and in some twisted way, accusing others relieves many projectors of the guilt they carry.

In their deluded minds, if they make someone else the bad guy, they have nothing to feel guilty about, because if the enemy is “communist,” they are allowed to stop them by any means necessary. In their disordered thinking, they are actually the good guys fighting “evil.”

How to counter

The general rule is don’t argue with dishonest framing because projection is fueled by reaction. If you get drawn into defending yourself against a false label, you are playing on their battlefield, and few win arguments with people who believe they are never wrong.

Instead, stay laser focused on facts. Ask what specific evidence supports their claim that Dems are communists or if they have ever done the behavior they are condemning. Their vague and ambiguous accusations usually fall apart when specific examples of proof are demanded. Otherwise, engaging in such a discussion is usually a waste of your valuable time.

Like Gray Rocking, keep your responses short, precise, and calm. Projectors thrive on drama, over-explaining, and any opportunity to turn your defense into their “proof.”

Being steady, unfazed, and methodical also makes false accusations harder to keep up, and it drives them crazy. In fact, it hurts their ego when they can’t trigger you into anger or pain. This is not to say you shouldn’t feel what you feel. It is just to say that revealing your true feelings to a toxic predator almost always works against you.

If trump’s accusations of communism keep repeating, which they will until it is made to look ridiculous, consider the behavior to be data. The more absolute and performative the act, the more likely you are to hear them project what they are really up to or thinking about.

Normally, one waits for clues to see if someone has a serious argument, but it’s hard to remember the last time trump had a serious argument about anything, so it’s best not to expect one.

That reality is why trump desperately throws around words like “communist” to attack the Democrats with, he is doing it because it’s the best he’s got.

Conclusions

Indeed, projection tells us the real meaning of “communist” when trump uses it against the Dems. It is his unconscious confession of political repression, trying to limit freedoms, hiding his corruption, failing in governing, causing nearly a million deaths, and his consistent human rights violations.

That’s right, malignant types of narcissists are now projecting their own authoritarian mindset onto Democrats and calling it “communism.” How else are toxic predators supposed to sell their authoritarian rule over a country meant to be free from kings and other such horrible things?

How else could someone tattooed all over the epstein files get elected president except by accusing the other side of hiding things first? How else could a warmonger get elected besides claiming they are the peace candidate who won’t start any wars?

Renaming the Department of War is an Iranian condition of peace. ; )

Claiming to be for peace but starting a Department of War was a clue of trump’s true intentions. 🙄

Hopefully, from now on, every time you hear trump or a henchman like Stephen Miller call anyone a “communist” or other dishonest names, you will know these attacks are likely nothing more than narcissists, sociopaths, and psychopaths projecting their own faults and authoritarian goals onto others.
