I just wanted to comment on Sinead being diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. BPD is part of Cluster B in the DSM, so on the same spectrum with HPD, NPD & ASPD. Personally, I skipped it bc I saw the self-destructive compulsions, but not most pathological narcissistic traits. Did Sinead have some narcissistic tendencies? Of course, who wouldn't being a child of a sadistic malignant narcissist & a global star, but BPD, idk.
Frankly, I found BPD to be the most confusing & misunderstood aspects of Cluster B, & the one I studied the least bc I didn't need it, but Sinead really cared about other people, and never came across to me as a pathological narcissist. Just a massively wounded soul who found her power & her voice in pursuit of truth. A few years ago I was listening to a lecture on BPD by a top global expert. I can't say I heard much useful info, but heard 6 months later he was dismissed from his University position for being abusive towards co-workers, so I am dubious of so-called BPD experts & any BPD diagnosis.
BPD is one of those diagnoses that feels leftover from when psychology wasn’t very good. I think the roots of the term “borderline” come from Freudian defense mechanisms, and BPD being on the borderline between “normal” and “not normal” coping mechanisms.
A better term I’ve heard for it is “emotionally unstable personality disorder”, which is a lot more intuitive when observing behavior of those diagnosed with BPD.
I’ve heard those with BPD are capable of being helped, unlike those with NPD. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is apparently pretty good in treating BPD
Yes, I always thought that “borderline” was just an easy phrase to use bec the therapists were not always sure whether someone is in the “psychosis” box or a more acceptable behavior box. The emotional lability is still a hallmark no matter what you call it.
Her music was important. I love what she said when a journalist asked her if she regretted tearing up the picture of the Pope. They said, “do you regret throwing your career off track?” She answered, “No, my career was off track before, but now it’s back on track.”
I shouldn’t use quotes maybe because those aren’t exact quotes, but they’re close enough. She was a protest singer and never wanted to be thought of as a pop star. Brave, brave Sister Sinead.
This 66 year old thanks you for writing such a beautiful and deserving tribute to yet another outstanding woman dismissed for speaking the truth. I was watching live when she tore up that picture of the Pope. I stood up in my living room and applauded her in spirit. It strengthen my love for her artistic personality, honesty, and rebellious nature. And give AF about opinions from those who will justify anything to keep them from appearing in a bad light. She certainly was born in a different year, but "old souls" are among all who understand the difficulties of the hatred that is misdirected far, far too often. She was a hippie, punk, folk, and other types of singers in her actions as well as lyrics. That voice will remain in my head forever, Even should i never hear it from a source again.
Give Janis a hug Senead, should our souls end up somewhere. Ya' did good!
Thank you so much for your kind and beautiful words as well. This is the first CNI piece I got to write with all love. I find myself returning to it wanting to hear her songs or wanting to add more. If you didn't catch the the last piece, it is peak live Sinead. I liked "Last Day" before but in that great live cut, she takes me to another world, and puts it up there with her very best. What a loss for music fans in America that her career here got canceled. Especially when she was right. Hugs and love all around for Sinead.
I watched it live, too. I’m about the same age as she is/was.
She CHOSE to make that statement and never regretted it. That platform, her act, and the hate that followed - all of it was the backlash of being a “protest singer”, which is what she wanted to be.
Her COD was released just a few days ago. Heart/arteries, etc. I’d name it lifelong trauma. It changes a body. I’m that much more grateful that she made the music she did and that much angrier about those who create the trauma.
✨Your Poignant, realistc portrait of one of our favourite artists went straight to my heart, my friend ! Sinead's parting is and will be a loss to the world.. ✨
To Stevie Wonder… Then a frail looking Sinead came to center front of the stage dressed on a white monk-like robe. Before she could even open her mouth to sing, the crowd started shouting and booing! She stood absolutely still. I think she expected them to stop taunting her and she would sing. I actually don’t recall if she even sang one note.
Hubby and I were stunned and then we got mad. Did not the crowd listen to Bob’s lyrics? Did they know what he stood for?
It seemed like an eternity but Kristofferson and a couple of others rushed out to hold her while she was crying and carefully walked her back stage.
How could Dylan’s followers be so brutal? In October 1992? After all the past 30 years of protests for Civil Rights and the Vietnam War, no one’s heart was changed. Looking back now, it would be like MAGA attacking Mother Teresa.
I’ll never forget her tears. And I will always remember her truth.
When she passed, I wondered if the haters who booed actually thought about what they had brutally done. She always looked like her angel wings were carefully tucked behind her.
Old woman here! I too watched Sinead live. I’m not a Catholic but that her personal conviction was especially powerful. History later revealed itself and the truths were worse than what we knew at that time.
Several years later, hubby and I watched a broadcast of a absolutely tremendous line up of musicians singing from Bob Dylan’s catalog of protest, love snd classic songs. This was a tribute concert with everyone from Eddie Vedder to Kris Kristofferson to John Mellenkamp to
Thank you~ This is a beautiful tribute to an inimitable artist with a huge heart along with her voice... She played an impromptu acoustic set at 1 am at The Worlds End on 2nd Ave and Ave B in New York in the late 80s...The Last Year of Our Acquaintance is still one of my favorite songs to play and sing ..any day of the week...
Most welcome Pandora and thanks for sharing. I liked The Last Day of Our Acquaintance but it wasn't up there for me until I saw the above live performance. Mind blown! I was wondering why I never saw her because everyone came to the SF bay to play. I suspect she sold out quickly the 1st few times and always thought I would have more time to see her, but I guess I didn't realize how severely she had been canceled in the US until her passing.
Thanks Sam that's very kind of you to share this and very interesting. I didn't realize either how fame and fortune had treated her finally. I am sorry you never saw her perform live, and that impromptu show at The World's End was the only time I can remember.
My pleasure. It was so nice to write something here completely out of love for a change ; ) Of course it is sad I missed her but considering how many amazing shows I have seen, I can't complain. It's funny she and Prince instantly clashed. I'm with her on that one, but Prince Purple Rain 40ft center from the stage in Oakland was the greatest show I have ever seen, hands down, not even close.
There was a video of her doing it live that sounded great of course, but she looks so sad, so I went with beautiful pics of Ireland instead. There was definitely are tear or two writing this piece ; )
Sam Ray thank you for this mornings blast of Ms. Sinead O’Connor🥹I’m still not able to think of her without tearing up. She was a surreal angel warrior that withstood so much and still was able to share her soul with us. Just thanks, made my day🥰
Thank you so much Rachel. There were a few tears shed writing about Sinead too.
Enjoy your art and look forward to reading about your cultural futurism. I am a lifelong scifi fan and it is a subject that has a lot of cross-over with CNI, because unbiased analysis via narcissist psychology is highly predictive, and the success in countering malignant narcissism will determine much of our cultural future.

Sinead’s death gutted me.

Thanks Harry. It came straight from the heart, just as everything Sinead always did.
Part 2 Sinead —accidentally posted

She was a targeted person for telling the truth like most targeted people today.

Sinead O’Connor’s rendition of “Danny Boy” is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard.
Thanks so much for the recommendation Joseph. I just added it as bonus track. It is indeed very beautiful.
I can barely get through the track without crying. I straight up cried at work one time because it came up on shuffle
There was a video of her doing it live that sounded great of course, but she looks so sad, so I went with beautiful pics of Ireland instead. There was definitely are tear or two writing this piece ; )

RIP beautiful soul
This made me cry. Beautifully written.
