Well said antlisa. We do have a lot to rebuild although it hasn't all been downhill since our founding. We have done and can do great things if we are not sabotaged from within by those who only think about themselves.

I believe I could sum it up without purchasing it. "Be born rich and achieve at least C's in school then follow your daddy into politics, the money will just flow!"
Thank you for the kind words. That class actually shows Bush to be far more narcissistic than he has been portrayed. He F'd up so much, cost so many lives by being a fool, & got filthy rich via connections & failing upward. Now the loser wants people to pay for a F-up's advice. Wow! I thought he learned the lesson that he is not smart & it was time for him to mostly shut up. Clearly he has far less self-awareness than many of us thought he had matured into.
I remember all of this very well. As well do I recall the hatred and disdain heaped upon anyone who even questioned the propaganda or dissented in the mildest way.
So much to unpack from this sprawling, inclusive, background piece. After the shock of 9/11 many of us thought the special forces and security agencies would go into Afghanistan and maybe even Saudi Arabia (?!) to act retribution on the organizations and families that monetarily supported the use of commercial airliners as bombs. But then Dick Cheney had an even better idea. He hand picks his own intelligence people, ignores the good intelligence and completely ignored or shut down the group that entered Iraq looking for a viable nuclear program. They found none . At the same time Colin Powell sold his integrity to Bush people not knowing he was lied to. My guess he died a broken man. So instead of doing a “Munich” we invade and end up killing hundreds of thousands of civilians. We disbanded Hussein’s military and organized civil servants and it was a mess. Bush 2 had to keep the war going to get elected ( and do a hit job on Kerry’s service in the VN war). Such a mess. Clinton decreased the debt, ended the conflict in Serbia ( w/ the help of NATO—the organization trump thinks is worthless), and the economy took off. Which is why we got Obama, the lies were now obvious and as usual the GOP never has an actionable plan to help the middle class. I’m not a fan of Bush2 but I do think he finally saw thru Cheney but it was too late. He wasn’t even speaking to him at the end of the second term. He has to live w the destruction and lack of need for the war.
Brilliant! I was one of those who eventually shut up before Bush 2 went into Iraq because I was making too many enemies.
